What are the foot health benefits of pedicures?

Taking care of your feet is important for maintaining your overall foot health as your feet are critical for your overall mobility and general aesthetic. Pedicures are key to contributing to foot health as they encourage circulation and joint mobility. Here are the key health benefits of pedicures:

  1. Increases blood circulation: warm water and massages help promote blood circulation, reduces pain and distributes heat around your feet.

  2. Improves joint health: foot massages during a pedicure promote joint movement and reduce stiffness. This leads to stress relief on your joints reducing the potential pain you may incur.

  3. Callus reduction: moisture provided during pedicures either help prevent calluses from forming on your foot or helps remove calluses that have already formed. By removing or preventing calluses, you control the amount of damage that can be incurred on your foot.

  4. Reduction of infection: moisture application from pedicures prevents cracks from appearing or causing infections. Pedicures also remove bacteria and dirt from your feet, preventing the growth of fungus

Although we would recommend receiving a pedicure from a health professional, you can also give yourself a pedicure in the comforts of your own home. Here are the steps you can take to do-it-yourself (DIY):

  1. Cut your toenails straight across with a proper nail clipper.

  2. Shape with a cushion file.

  3. Smooth away dry skin and calluses with either a foot file or a pumice stone.

  4. Moisturize your feet with a foot moisturizer.

  5. Rinse and dry your feet, then massage with either foot lotion or oil.

In order to maintain your foot health, we would recommend receiving a pedicure every 2-4 weeks. Speak with our team should you have any questions or concerns.
